¡Feliz Primero Cumpleaños Eden!

January 23rd, 2006by Gavin & Tara

One year….one year!  Showers of cute cards began arriving this past week in pink evelopes addressed to Miss Eden Hills.  We smiled huge smiles and  had fun opening them with the recipient herself.  I (Tara) remember how the night she was born, the night nurses brought Eden to me for her a nursing and told me "Your little girl has got quite the personality!"  I ‘pshawed’ that thinking it wasn’t possible for a 12 hour old baby to have clear evidence of a personality!?  I had somehow assumed that personality was somewhat inherent, but mostly developed over time and definitely didn’t show until the child was talking!  But no, the nurses corrected me saying, "Honey, I’ve worked around newborns for a long time now, and I’m telling you, your daughter has a very clear personality!"  Is that a bad thing I asked (was she a little crankypants making all the nurses lives miserable or something?"  "No, no!" they laughed.  "She just knows what she wants when she wants it!"  She piped up only when she wanted something.  Otherwise, she was just chillin’!  As this year has unfolded we’ve seen the truth that little person certainly has a very clear personality.  Quite independent, assertive, and vocal.  As we opened her cards with her she let us know that she didn’t need any help, she could do it just fine by herself thank you very much!emoticon

What Else Can You Expect??!!

January 22nd, 2006by Gavin & Tara

How do I begin to capture what God did this week?

God sent us houseguests for the week, a married missionary couple from Madrid who would be leading the ‘Sendas Antiguas’ (Ancient Paths) seminars for the week. What a blessing! What a blessing! The first seminar was titled “Biblical Foundations for Finance”. I thought it was going to be a boring study of accounting with a Christian twist. God blew me (and all the lies I’d been believing about Him, money, and myself) out of the water! God revealed a lot of diabolical (seeking to divide) lies in my heart and mind that were holding me back from walking in truth and blessing. So often Christians adopt the ways of the world (which is held in the power of the evil one, 1 Jn 5:5) with higher standards. It’s a total set up. The world system is based on control; buying and selling. Buying and selling in and of itself isn’t wrong, it’s just inherently different than the Kingdom of God which is one of giving and receiving. Mammon isn’t just something we attribute value to, it’s actually the name of a Philistine god of prosperity. Money is an impotent man-made system to buy and sell. There is a real demonic entity that hides behind the system to powerfully lure our trust and allegiance away from the True Source of blessing and power. Lies abound in our psyche’s telling us money is our true need and salvation. Untruths and mistakes also abound in Christian circles concerning money (that we can use money to make God bless us). It all comes down to not knowing the Truth. Huge verse that God is revealing to my heart:

Athens

January 22nd, 2006by Gavin
Well Tara may not have enjoyed the ancient temples of the Greeks but I found it amazing that there were so many. My mind kept thinking back to Acts chapter 17. It was amazing to think that these people had so many idols and I was only able to see the ones that had survived the many millenium. Some of the blocks of stone were quite massive and it took a number of years to finish them. I can only imagine the Athens that Paul would have been looking at when he visited. The rubble that these mighty temples are now in is poor in comparision to what it must have been. I am awed by history at times to think of the people that walked the earth and the impact some had. The Greek culture has changed history and because of it we have many of our modern thoughts and structures in our cultures, so the question is “Is it a modern culture if we get so much influence from the ancient world?” Well the experience was a good one. I had fun walking around, and the ancient Agora museum was the only park in the city I really visited (if there were any more, I don’t know). So here are some pictures for those of you who would like to see them. Athens was not much of a city I’m afraid to say and if it hadn’t had some biblical meaning to me it really would not have been all that exciting. I enjoyed the time there connecting with friends and just relaxing, and I really enjoyed having a hot shower in a heated bathroom. I made sure I took a nice long one every day.emoticon AAAHHH!
